DAE offers an holistic approach to dance education.

Our Classes

Our studio timetable allows students to conveniently immerse in multiple, complimentary genres of dance. DAE students are encouraged to combine their academic studies and their DAE dance training as well as other sporting and musical pursuits in such a way that allows many wonderful doors of opportunity to open. Please contact our friendly team for advice on suitable class combinations.

DAE offers Jazz, Contemporary, Showgroup, Ballet, Tap, Hip-Hop, Balance, Lyrical & Tippy Toes classes. Click on the toggles below for class descriptions & uniform requirements.

This umbrella term is used to describe Street Funk, Musical Theatre, Lyrical and commercial Jazz. These styles place emphasis on performing complex movement patterns stylistically set to popular music. Jazz improves co-ordination, confidence and fitness and is a wonderful complimentary form to other styles of dance.

Contemporary focuses on the essentials of body alignment, technique, movement mechanics, improvisation and composition. This class enables students to express themselves through movement in a caring and encouraging environment. Contemporary classes are complimented by both Jazz and Ballet.

Showgroup performers build upon the technical foundations of dance classes to reach a higher, more refined level of training and skill focusing on style and performance quality. With an emphasis on discipline, work ethic and positive encouragement, students will work to gain the professional and organisation skills needed to be determined and resilient dancers.

Students seeking selection should be enrolled in 3 dance classes, one of which must be Ballet. For the best chance of selection a student should also be enrolled in Jazz. Only at the Academy’s discretion will this rule be waived.

Ballet focuses on the essentials of technique, body alignment and posture. Set to beautiful classical music, the discipline of Ballet and the terminology involved is fundamental to all other styles of dance. The benefits of Ballet classes are life-long.

Tap classes focus on rhythm accuracy and efficiency of movement. Students will master the basic steps and full-length routines. Tap classes are both fun and challenging. Skills gained include co-ordination, musicality/rhythm, improved physical fitness and stage craft.

Incorporating both OLD ad NEW SKOOL commercial styles, DAE Hip-Hop allows its dancers to perform with freedom of movement, adding their own personalities to this fun style. All DAE Hip-Hop classes are age appropriate in choreography and music selection.

A carefully curated signature class, specifically designed for young women, offering the benefits of Yoga, Pilates and Technical Dance training. A safe space for our students to restore equilibrium, practice mindfulness and focus on their wellbeing. Lengthening and strengthening to fabulous feel good ‘tunes’, this DAE total mind/body workout will leave students feeling strong, empowered and confident, ensuring that optimism remains high and creativity flourishes. We recommend students attend multiple sessions per week for maximum gain.

Please note: Balance classes are not performance based and not included in our Winter and Summer Concert series.

Uniform:

Lyrical dancers benefit from being emotionally connected to the music, using fluidity of movement to convey an emotional interpretation of an idea. A fabulous class which  gracefully fuses various aspects of Jazz, Ballet and Modern dance with a strong emphasis on emotional expression.

Showgroup ‘Prep’, as the name suggests, is a preparation class for our highly esteemed DAE Showgroup (please refer to our Showgroup class description). This ‘readiness’ program is designed for students who are keen  to take their training and performance to the next level  but could benefit from some extra training and experience prior to joining Showgroup. Showgroup ‘Prep’ works alongside the Showgroup class at a reduced pace allowing staff to unlock the performance potential of each student. Highly recommended for students who love the stage and the challenge of learning choreography.

This class encourages the little ones to become life-long friends with the arts, introducing them to the joys of Ballet, Tap and Jazz within the one convenient class. “Tippy Toes” fosters positive self esteem and self expression, physical fitness, co-ordination, musicality, memory and basic dance techniques.

Included in each terms fees are all other associated rehearsal costs, practice material, staff ‘hand-overs’ and performance costs (costume hire charge of $35 is not included). Should your daughter need to alter her enrolment, she should do so at the end of the term after fulfilling her terms commitment. We value and encourage commitment and perseverance.

  • Please note that fees are calculated on confirmed enrolment and on a per term basis.
  • We do not charge by the class. Students joining mid term will be offered a pro-rata discount.
  • We do not offer drop in classes – attendance is paramount to great learning.
  • We unfortunately do not offer make-up classes.
  • In term 1, invoices will be sent during the first  2 weeks. In subsequent terms, invoices will be sent during the school holidays prior and are due within 7 days.
  • A discount of 10% applies to families with combined classes of 5 or more.
  • A nominal charge of $35 per class (excluding Balance classes) will be added to term 3 invoices for end of year Concert Costume hire.
